Brazil Pantanal – Quest for the Jaguar
Brazil is a perfect safari destination for photographing wildlife. This land has an amazing array of dramatic animals, birds, and reptiles. It also has the apex predator, the Jaguar!
Our tour will cover both Brazil’s North Pantanal and the South Pantanal. This vast area has incredible biodiversity to discover and photograph. In the South we will encounter Scarlet macaws at a huge sinkhole. They eat the mud from the sinkhole’s wall to protect their stomachs from poisons in the fruit they eat. Tamandua and Giant anteaters are common here and we will be photographing them on the ground at eye level!
In the North we stay on a beautiful houseboat where our rooms are called floating “Jaguar Suites.” Small motorboats bring us through a tangle of forest rivers and streams. The surrounding area is flat and treeless. The forest-clad rivers are where the Jaguars come for shade and to hunt. All the other animals come for the shade and to drink.
Other birds and animals that you will see include Giant river otters, Capybara, Hyacinth macaws, Jabiru storks, Ocelot, Brazilian tapir, Crab-eating fox, and much more!
Our last stay will be at an old cattle ranch that is now an Eco lodge. There are many, many bird species at this location. Also, Jaguars, Ocelot, Giant river otters and a spectacular Jabiru nest with an observation blind that puts us at eye level.
