The Wild BORNEO

Borneo, the very name conjures dreams of mighty rain forests inhabited by orangutans, reptiles, and hornbills. The reality of this adventure is even more dramatic. Suspended rain forest walkways allow us to venture into the habitats of countless birds, animals, insects, and reptiles. Flying squirrels launch at a moment’s notice and glide for hundreds of feet to a new perch. The raucous calls of the hornbill echo through the trees. Kingfishers hunt the rivers and streams as huge crocodiles patrol dark jungle pools.

We explore all of this and more as we venture forth on foot, by 4-wheel trucks, and in boats.  Each form of locomotion is perfectly adapted to the habitat we are exploring.  Whether by day or by night, the outings are invariably spectacular!!

The insects, reptiles, and amphibians we see on night walks are great subjects for macro photography.  During our first trip to Borneo, we were fortunate to find what has been called one of the top 10 new discoveries of the decade…The Leaf Cicada.

Primate species are varied and prolific. Gibbons, Macaques, Langurs, and leaf monkeys abound, but the most dramatic are the Proboscis Monkey and Orangutans! Our first viewing of orangutans is in a research center. The habitat is natural and gives us a chance to see them, understand their size, speed, and behaviors. This gives us a head start when we see them in the wild.

Borneo is one of the destinations that is perfect for a variety of lenses, including telephoto, wide angle, and macro.

Your macro lens will allow you to capture the beauty of the insect life.

You will be amazed by the variety of birds in Borneo, such as the hornbill. Our itinerary allows us to see and photograph 8 species of hornbills, such as these.
